NYC Fashion Week 2012: Hair & Makeup Trends

Its that time of year again...New York Fashion week is in full swing, and a whole slew of hot new hair and beauty trends are gracing the runways. If you are anything like me, you fantasize about sitting front row at the hottest fashion shows, luckily for us non-famous folk, we have lots of online resources to keep us informed on the latest trends so we can be ready to rock them out this spring. Here are a few of my favorites for your viewing pleasure :)

Alexander Wang: Bold Eyebrows

We can always count on the amazing Alexander Wang to start the hottest trends, and this year he does not dissapoint. The models walked the catwalk sporting some full, and beautiful bold eyebrows.

To get the look: Line and fill in sparse eyebrows using an eye pencil that is a shade lighter than your hair color.

Marc Jacobs: Angled, short bangs.

This is a new take on statement bangs, short, piecey and angled. I saw Christina Aguilera sporting this trend a while back, and I must say it grew on me. Im not bold enough to pull it off, but maybe someday!

To get the look:
Have your stylist point cut your bangs in an angle to give texture, and provide a peicey look.

Tibi: Textured, Wrapped Pony Tails

A fresh take on an all time classic. The wrapped pony tail is going to take over the top knot, I can feel it :)

To get the look:
  • Pull hair into a low pony
  • Wrap a one inch section around pony tail holder and tuck in. Pin into place if necessary.
  • Spritz a texture spray into remaining hair, and slightly tease
  • Smooth out unruly fly aways with a boar bristle brush
  • Hair spray to keep in place

Runway: Bold Eyeshadow

Neons and color blocking seem to be a huge fashion trend arising for Spring 2012, so why not add some bold eyeshadow to match? A lot of the models on the catwalk were sporting some serious, eye-popping eyeshadow in colors like orange, purple and blue.

Get the look:
  • Apply an eye primer to the lid before eyeshadow application
  • Sweep on a bold eyeshadow over the lid, and slightly above the crease
  • Highlight brow bone with a luminizing cream
  • Apply black mascara to lashes

Runway: Sun Kissed Cheeks

Glowing complexion has always been in, but this spring it is being taken to the next level. Bronzed, sun kissed cheeks with a shimmering glow was showcased at this years fashion week. It seems to me that spring and summer are definitely being channelled with this years makeup trends on the catwalk!

To get the look:
  • Using an angled blush brush, swipe a shimmery bronzer along jaw bone
  • Apply a baby pink cream blush to apples of cheeks and blend
  • Finish with a luminizing powder along cheekbones and blend

How to get the look:
  • Blowdry hair upside down to maximize volume
  • Spritz strands with a texturizing spray
  • Tease hair with a wide tooth comb
  • Gently smooth out fly-aways
  • Braid using thicker sections
  • Hair Spray

Betsey Johnson: Side Swept Locks
I love this style, and it might look familar to you, as some of the hottest celebs are already rocking this trend. Its a flirty look that can be done for a daytime look, and can cross right over for a night out on the town.

To get the look:

  • Using a one inch barrell curling iron, curl hair in thick sections away from your face
  • Spritz with a light hold hairspray
  • Gently brush out curls
  • Add a smoothing serum to ends for definiton and shine
  • Sweep hair to one side, pinning with bobby pins or any other hair clip

Of course when pulling off this look, it cant hurt to be model gorgeous right? Kidding... this look is awesome because the more natural, the less time we have to spend primping in front of the mirror. • Blowdry hair upside down for maximium volume
  • Using a texturizing spray, scrunch hair to add beachy texture

Makeup:
Keeping makeup simple and fresh is the key

  • Apply a tinted moisturizer to even out skin
  • Apply concealer under eyes to cover any dark circles
  • Apply a light pink blush to apples of cheeks and blend
  • Add a highlighting cream under eyes to give an awake and fresh look
